Q: I've never had a tattoo before, what should I know about the shop/artists before I commit to getting a tattoo?
A: You want to be an educated consumer, especially with your body and your health. None of the questions below should pose a problem to an ethical tattoo artist working in clean studio. If your questions aren't answered easily, or you feel uncomfortable with the answers or the manner the answers are presented, walk away.

- Make sure the studio is clean. At Fine Line Tattoo we take personal and professional hygiene seriously, extra care is taken to ensure areas in our shop are not cross-contaminated during clean-up. We take every precaution to protect our customers and ourselves! You should do the same when considering a tattoo.
- Are the folks working in the studio clean, well groomed, personable?
- Feel free to ask the artist questions about their craft. How long have they been tattooing? Who did they apprentice under and where? What is their best subject to tattoo? Ask to see samples of their work. If you are still unsure of a particular artist's ability, ask if you can watch them while they work.
- Ask personnel how they clean their equipment, specifically how they sterilize it. At Fine Line Tattoo we use sterilization (autoclave) to properly sterilize equipment.
- Ask if they reuse needles (needles are inexpensive and should never be reused). Fine Line Tattoo does not reuse needles.
- Ask if everything is single service use. Ask if it will only be used on you and then disposed of. Fine Line Tattoo disposes of items after each use (with the exception of tattoo machines and items that can be safely sterilized).
Q: Do I need to make an appointment to get a tattoo?
A: It is better to make an appointment to ensure the artist has enough time to work on your tattoo, but walk-ins are welcome if the artists are not busy and can fit you in when you stop by.
Q: Is it painful getting a tattoo?
A: Getting a tattoo feels similar to nicking yourself shaving, it's a slight burning or stinging sensation. After the tattoo is complete, you may notice slight discomfort for a short period of time (depending on the location and the size of the tattoo), however it should not be painful to the point of unbearable.
Q: I want a tattoo of my favorite (dog/person/thing) and I have a picture. Can I get a custom tattoo done with a photo?
A: Yes, please provide Fine Line Tattoo with the photo in advance of your tattoo appointment, so we can make a drawing of it.
Q: How long does it take to get a tattoo?
A: It depends on the size and intricacy of the design.
Q: I have a birthmark I want covered, can that be done?
A: Yes, most birthmarks can be covered, however Fine Line Tattoo recommends you stop in to show the artist your birthmark to ensure it can be tattooed over. Click here to view our cover up page (covering birthmarks).
Q: I have a scar/mark I'd like covered up, can I get a tattoo over that? Click here to view our cover up page (covering scars).
A: Yes, most scars can be tattooed over, however Fine Line Tattoo recommends you stop by to discuss your particular scar area with an artist prior to making an appointment.
Q: I have an old tattoo, but it's really faded, can I have it brightened?
A: Yes, Fine Line Tattoo covers old, poorly done, and non-professional tattoos. Click here to view our cover up page (which includes brightening faded tattoo's).
Q: I have an old tattoo, that is really ugly, can I get a new tattoo over the old one?
A: Yes, Fine Line Tattoo can cover old tattoos (see above). You can view several examples of covered up tattoo's by clicking here.
Q: Are there any body areas Fine Line Tattoo will not tattoo? If so, why?
A: Fine Line Tattoo will not tattoo on genitals (for obvious reasons) and we cannot guarantee tattoos on hands or feet because the skin wears off these areas faster than the tattoo's can heal. Fine Line Tattoo does not do "cosmetic" tattoo's (permanent lip or eye liner).
Gender specific questions (Females):
Q: Is there any time of the month not ideal for getting a tattoo?
A: Yes, 5 days before, during, and after your period are not ideal days to get a tattoo because your body does not produce endorphins. Endorphins kick in after a tattoo has been started and help your body manage pain naturally.
If you have ANY other questions not specifically addressed here, please do not hestitate to contact us at Fine Line Tattoo. We would be happy to discuss any issues or concerns you might have. Your tattoo satisfaction is our goal.
